Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an L2 Systems Administrator / IT Support specialist in Washington, DC. The role covers Windows and Linux infrastructure, active directory, virtualization, backups, and security compliance.

You will work onsite at least three days per week with some remote capacity, handling complex incidents and documentation. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in system administration or L2 support, strong Windows Server and Linux skills, and familiarity with VMware/Hyper-V and SCCM/WDS.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive L2 technical support for a premier client.
Maintain enterprise infrastructure across Windows and Linux environments.
Manage server infrastructure and troubleshoot complex issues.
Provide advanced desktop support while following security protocols.
Administer Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Active Directory.
Perform Linux system administration and scripting.
Troubleshoot and maintain server hardware and networks.
Support VMware vSphere and Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
Perform backup and recovery operations with enterprise tools.
Monitor performance and ensure security compliance.
Resolve ITSM tickets and escalate when needed.
Image and deploy systems using SCCM/WDS or similar tools.
Manage asset lifecycles and inventory.
Work onsite at least three days per week; some remote work.
Occasionally work evenings or weekends during maintenance.

Job description

Provide comprehensive L2 technical support for a premier client
Maintain enterprise infrastructure across Windows and Linux environments
Manage server infrastructure and troubleshoot complex technical issues
Provide advanced desktop support while maintaining security protocols and system documentation
Administer Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Active Directory
Perform Linux system administration, shell scripting, and system maintenance
Troubleshoot and maintain server hardware
Troubleshoot networks, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLAN configuration
Support VMware vSphere and Hyper-V virtualization platforms
Perform backup and recovery operations using enterprise backup solutions
Manage patches and monitor security compliance
Monitor performance and optimize systems
Resolve and escalate ITSM tickets
Provide advanced workstation software break-fix support for Windows and Linux clients
Perform enterprise IMAC operations (Install, Move, Add, Change)
Image and deploy systems using SCCM, WDS, or similar automated tools
Manage asset lifecycles and inventory control
Support enterprise printers and peripherals, including network printers
Provide technical support at the Client Center (Tech Bar)
Diagnose and replace hardware
Troubleshoot network connectivity and manage cabling
Work onsite at least three days per week and as needed, with additional remote support responsibilities
Work occasional evenings or weekends during maintenance windows

Requirements

2+ years of experience in system administration or L2 technical support
Hands-on experience with Windows Server environments and Active Directory
Working knowledge of Linux system administration and command-line operations
Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
Understanding of network troubleshooting and TCP/IP fundamentals
Experience with IT ticketing systems and ITSM processes
Knowledge of enterprise backup and recovery procedures
Understanding of change management and incident management frameworks
Strong documentation and technical communication skills
U.S. citizenship required pursuant to a government contract
Must be within driving distance of Washington, DC
Willingness to work onsite a minimum of three days a week and when needed
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs for server and equipment handling
Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods in data center environments
Must be able to work in server rooms and confined spaces, including under-floor cable management
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for maintenance windows
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred: CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certification
Preferred: Microsoft certifications (MCSA, MCSE, or Azure fundamentals)
Preferred: Linux certifications (CompTIA Linux+, RHCSA)
Preferred: Python, PowerShell, and Bash scripting
Preferred: Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or hybrid environments)
Preferred: ITIL Foundation certification
Preferred: Experience with monitoring tools
Preferred: Knowledge of configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
Preferred: Expertise in enterprise inventory control systems
Preferred: RingCentral CX/EX administration experience
