The ideal candidate has 4+ years in litigation with strong writing and research skills, plus experience in training. This is a collaborative, high-impact role requiring excellent communication and coordination

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to a U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum 4+ years of litigation, arbitration, investigations, or related practice experience.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience developing and delivering legal training.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge Management & Precedents: Develop, maintain, and enhance precedent libraries, templates, practice notes, checklists, and manuals.
  • Training & Professional Development: Design and deliver training programs for attorneys, update materials, identify external opportunities.
  • Publications & Thought Leadership: Assist attorneys with client alerts, legal updates, articles, and publications.
  • Attorney & Practice Support: Advise on legal developments and practice trends; collaborate with partners to ensure quality of work.

Managing Associate (Knowledge Lawyer) – Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations

Location: New York, NY or Washington, DC

About the Role

A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Knowledge Lawyer to support its Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations practice. This role will serve as an internal legal knowledge resource, helping attorneys stay current on legal developments, maintain best-in-class precedents and knowhow, deliver training programs, and drive innovation initiatives including the adoption of Generative AI and legal technology.

The ideal candidate combines strong litigation experience with a passion for knowledge management, attorney development, legal technology, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Knowledge Management & Precedents

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance precedent libraries, templates, practice notes, checklists, and legal manuals.
  • Capture and organize knowhow from matters and attorney experience.
  • Monitor legal, regulatory, and market developments and communicate updates to attorneys.
  • Promote best practices and consistency across the practice.

Training & Professional Development

  • Design and deliver legal training programs for attorneys.
  • Develop and update training materials and educational resources.
  • Identify external training opportunities and coordinate knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Partner with practice leadership to implement AI and legal technology solutions.
  • Evaluate and promote tools that improve efficiency, knowledge sharing, and client service.
  • Support innovation projects focused on legal workflows and service delivery.

Publications & Thought Leadership

  • Assist attorneys with client alerts, legal updates, articles, and publications.
  • Support business development through creation of legal content and market insights.

Attorney & Practice Support

  • Act as a trusted internal advisor on legal developments and practice trends.
  • Participate in limited client-facing and billable activities as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and associates to ensure consistency and quality of legal work product.
Qualifications
Required
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to a U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum 4+ years of litigation, arbitration, investigations, or related practice experience.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience developing and delivering legal training.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
  • Prior Knowledge Lawyer, Knowledge Management, Professional Support Lawyer (PSL), or Knowledge Counsel experience.
  • Experience in a large law firm environment.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI, legal technology, and knowledge management systems.
  • Interest in legal innovation and process improvement.
