Job description

Knowledge & Innovation Attorney (Hybrid - North Jersey or New York, NY)

A forward-thinking law firm is seeking a Knowledge & Innovation Attorney to help shape how legal work gets done. This role sits at the intersection of legal practice, knowledge management, and AI-enabled innovation - ideal for an attorney who enjoys building tools, improving workflows, and making expertise reusable across the organization.

About the Role

With a dual focus on knowledge capture and AI-driven workflow design, this attorney will work across transactional, bankruptcy, and litigation practices to identify high-value know-how, transform it into practical resources, and embed modern tools into daily legal work. This position is a key contributor to the firm’s broader transformation toward AI-ready data, smarter workflows, and more efficient client service.

What Makes This Role Unique

This is a builder's role - the engine for capturing what the firm knows and transforming how legal work gets done. The ideal candidate brings the credibility of a practicing lawyer, the judgment to identify meaningful knowledge, and the enthusiasm to design tools and workflows attorneys will actually use.

Key Responsibilities
Knowledge Capture & Precedent Development
  • Identify valuable precedent, work product, and matter data across practice groups.
  • Debrief matter teams to extract negotiated positions, market terms, and lessons learned.
  • Convert documents into model forms, annotated precedents, clause banks, playbooks, and decision trees - and maintain them over time.
  • Partner with practice leaders to surface workflow improvement opportunities and evaluate legal technology solutions.
  • Design, test, and refine AI prompts and workflows for specific legal use cases.
  • Embed tools such as Harvey, Microsoft Copilot, and other AI platforms into everyday practice, integrated with firm systems.
  • Support governance, quality assurance, and responsible use of emerging legal AI.
  • Deliver training, user guides, and adoption strategies for AI tools and knowledge resources.
  • Work closely with attorneys, KM, IT, innovation teams, and vendors to drive alignment and adoption.
  • Serve as a trusted, approachable resource for attorneys navigating new tools and workflows.
Qualifications
Required
  • J.D. and active U.S. bar admission.
  • 3-5+ years of substantive practice experience at a large law firm (transactional, bankruptcy, and/or litigation).
  • Excellent drafting skills and strong judgment around what knowledge carries lasting value.
  • Experience with legal technology, AI tools, or innovation initiatives.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Prior experience in knowledge management, innovation, or professional support roles.
  • Familiarity with knowledge systems, data lakes, analytics, and document automation.
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI tools (Harvey, Copilot, Claude, etc.).
  • Collaborative, credible working style with attorneys and business teams.
