Job OverviewThe Kitchen Steward plays an essential role in supporting smooth daily kitchen operations by maintaining clean, organized, and sanitary back-of-house work areas. This position is responsible for washing and sanitizing dishes, glassware, flatware, cookware, kitchen equipment, and food preparation areas while ensuring items are properly stored and available for culinary and service teams.The Kitchen Steward supports the culinary team by helping maintain a safe, efficient, and inspection-ready kitchen environment. Success in this role requires reliability, attention to detail, teamwork, a strong commitment to cleanliness, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hotel kitchen.Job ResponsibilitiesDishwashing & Kitchen SupportWash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, flatware, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment.Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and according to established procedures.Manually clean and sanitize pots, pans, and other items that require hand washing.Maintain a steady supply of clean serviceware, cookware, and utensils for culinary, banquet, and food and beverage operations.Assist cooks and service team members with basic kitchen support tasks as directed.Cleaning, Sanitation & OrganizationMaintain cleanliness and organization of dishwashing areas, kitchen floors, walls, work surfaces, storage areas, and equipment.Sweep, mop, empty trash, break down boxes, and remove waste according to hotel procedures.Follow all food safety, sanitation, health, and safety standards.Support deep cleaning projects and scheduled cleaning assignments as directed.Chemical, Equipment & Safety ProceduresUse cleaning chemicals safely and according to established guidelines.Monitor dish machine performance, water temperatures, and cleaning supplies, and report concerns promptly.Identify and report equipment issues, maintenance needs, spills, hazards, or unsafe conditions.Keep cleaning tools, chemical storage areas, and stewarding equipment organized and properly maintained.Teamwork & Operational SupportWork collaboratively with culinary, stewarding, banquet, and food and beverage teams to support efficient operations.Communicate professionally with supervisors and team members regarding supply needs, cleanliness concerns, or operational issues.Maintain a positive, helpful, and team-focused attitude during busy service periods.Perform other duties as assigned to support the kitchen and hotel operations.Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.Experience: Previous stewarding, dishwashing, kitchen utility, janitorial, or hospitality experience preferred.
