Job summary

The San Antonio Food Bank INC is seeking a Kitchen Lead to support daily production operations in a high-volume environment. You will direct shift activities, coach Kitchen Associates, and ensure meals are produced safely, accurately, and on schedule under the guidance of Kitchen Managers.

You will monitor adherence to recipes, quantities, and labeling, maintain documentation, and participate in readiness for inspections and audits.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years in high-volume food service, school nutrition, childcare/institutional/healthcare/non-profit food production.
• Experience leading a shift, station, or small team, or training kitchen staff or volunteers.
• Proven ability to follow a standardized recipe, keep production records, follow food safety procedures, and meet QA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate production floor activities during assigned shifts, including station assignments, staffing adjustments, break coverage, and workflow priorities in consultation with Kitchen Managers.
• Monitor progress against menus, production schedules, meal counts, and delivery deadlines; identify delays and take timely corrective action.
• Guide Level 1–2 Kitchen Associates across production areas; assist with production work when needed while maintaining oversight.
• Verify that standardized recipes, approved ingredients, portion sizes, yields, serving utensils, packaging specs, and build sheets are followed.
• Verify meal counts, required components, packaging, and labels before meals are released according to QA procedures.
• Conduct opening and closing readiness checks and communicate production status during shift handoffs.
• Serve as the designated floor point of contact when a Kitchen Manager is not available.
