Job summary

The San Antonio Food Bank INC is seeking a kitchen assistant to support daily meal preparation for Haven residents and satellite CACFP services in accordance with TDA and USDA requirements.

You will pack and transport meals, maintain food-cost controls, and ensure a clean, sanitary kitchen environment while following health standards. Training and supervision of volunteers are part of the role to support the food bank’s mission.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year’s food service experience or completion of Culinary Arts Program.
• ServSafe Certification or Food Handler’s Certification required.
• Adequate communication skills.
• Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other staff, volunteers, and agency personnel.
• Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
• Good judgment and discretion
• Ability to represent the Food Bank in a courteous professional manner.
• Possession of a current Texas driver’s license, liability insurance and a clean driving record.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• Be available to work early mornings and/or weekends and late evenings.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing meals for Haven residents and satellite CACFP meals per requirements.
• Pack, load and transport community meals to partners.
• Adhere to planned menus and conserve food costs.
• Maintain clean, sanitary kitchen environment and comply with Health Standards.
• Maintain regular inventory control and supervise check-in for accuracy.
• Pull inventory using FIFO methods and proper SAFB equipment.
• Ensure all refrigerated equipment is logged and monitored.
• Instruct, supervise and engage volunteers.
• Adhere to SAFB policies and maintain production and sanitation logs.
• Assist with any other instructions issued by senior staff.
