Position Overview
As Kitchen Manager, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of the kitchen at Smuttynose Restaurant—from menu creation and inventory to staffing and sanitation. You’ll work closely with front-of-house leadership to ensure an exceptional guest experience, while managing your team, food quality, and kitchen operations with confidence and consistency.

What You’ll Do

Culinary Leadership & Team Development

  • Hire, train, and inspire a high-performing kitchen team aligned with Smuttynose's quality standards
  • Design and execute seasonal menus that reflect both guest demand and local sourcing opportunities
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and learning across all levels of the kitchen
  • Ensure strong onboarding and continuous training for BOH staff
  • Manage food cost, inventory, and vendor relationships to support financial targets
  • Optimize kitchen labor scheduling and task execution to maximize efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and labor standards
  • Monitor and control waste, prep volume, and production consistency

Guest Experience & Brand Alignment

  • Work with FOH management to ensure smooth service flow and timely food delivery
  • Support beer dinners, private events, and other activations that elevate the Smuttynose brand
  • Bring creativity and thoughtfulness to how food and beer are paired, promoted, and celebrated

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of kitchen management experience in a fast-paced restaurant setting
  • Strong culinary chops, with a passion for seasonal ingredients and scratch kitchens
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, and vendor negotiations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
  • ServSafe certified (or willingness to become certified)
  • Passion for hospitality and beer culture—bonus points for beer & food pairing experience
