Are you a chef or experienced cook looking for a leadership opportunity in a fast-paced, high-energy kitchen? The Lakes Bar & Grill on beautiful Lake Madison is now hiring a Kitchen Lead / Sous Chef to join our team. This full-time, management-track position is ideal for a chef or cook who's ready to take on more responsibility, lead by example, and grow within a supportive, high-volume restaurant environment.
Since 2003, The Lakes Bar & Grill has served as a year-round destination for both locals and visitors seeking great food and great service. Located on-site with a 15-room motel and 9-hole golf course, our restaurant features both indoor and outdoor dining and has built a strong reputation as a fun and rewarding place to work. We're now looking to add a strong chef or cook who thrives in a busy kitchen and has a passion for food, teamwork, and leadership.
In this role, you'll be an essential part of the kitchen team, responsible for cooking and plating menu items to standard, helping train new cooks, and supporting daily kitchen operations. As a chef or lead cook, you'll also assist with managing inventory, supporting menu development, and ensuring kitchen cleanliness and organization. This is a hands-on chef position, perfect for someone who enjoys being on the line while also helping guide and motivate others.
We're looking for a dependable and motivated chef or experienced cook who wants to grow into a kitchen leadership role. Previous experience as a line cook, sous chef, or kitchen supervisor is preferred. The ideal candidate will be organized, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering consistent, high-quality food.
This full-time position offers a competitive pay range of $17 to $23 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Full-time chefs and cooks are eligible for benefits including health and dental insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, discounted meals, free soda, and a complimentary shift drink (if 21+). You'll also enjoy the unique perk of free golf on our scenic course.
Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required, especially during our busy summer season. Scheduling is flexible within our team-oriented environment.
