Job description

Under the general direction and supervision of the Site Supervisor or Master Teacher, this person will support the daily operations of nutrition, health and safety of the program site in which they are assigned to. This could Include daily health and safety checks, meal preparation, pick up and washing of toys, carts or laundry.

Location(s): MNC Bayview Campus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES

Meal Service

  • Meal service and preparation per CACFP and Health/Safety Guidelines.
  • Prepares and serves meals on site as needed i.e.: accepts food deliveries from our food vendor, takes temperature and completes documentation.
  • Reports damaged foods and inaccurate portion sizes from the vendor to Health & Nutrition Coordinator.
  • Portions out meals/snacks and delivers to classrooms.
  • Daily, picks up/washes classroom dishes and trays.
  • Maintains carts clean and sanitized.
  • Cleans/ sanitizes sinks and surrounding areas, counters, hoods, surfaces, tops of refrigerators, freezers on a regular basis.
  • Cleans/defrosts refrigerators, freezers.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly inspections.

General Maintenance

  • Maintains entryway tidy, dusts and waters plants.
  • Dusts and spot cleans furniture, shelves, moldings and other dust collecting areas according to schedule arranged by supervisor.
  • Tidies, organizes and cleans storage areas as requested by supervisor.

Trash/Recycling Disposal

  • Disposes of all trash/recycling after meal service.
  • Maintains designated Trash/Recycling areas organized/clean.
  • Takes out Recycling and Trash.

Laundry Duties

  • Receives laundry from classrooms. If laundry facilities are available on site, washes and dries on a weekly basis or as needed. Folds and distributes according to schedule.

Recording Keeping

  • Maintains required CACFP Temperature logs on a daily basis.
  • Maintains other records/logs related to CACFP Meal service and Health/Safety Compliance.
  • Keeps running inventory of items in Kitchen/storage areas.
  • Reports to supervisor when necessary to replenish or discard food items or other supplies.

Janitorial Duties

  • During the absence of the Custodian fulfills priority tasks of that position.
  • Assist Custodian/Handyperson as necessary on special projects.

Secondary Functions

  • May be required to assist in classroom as a non-teaching staff member as a substitute, if needed.
  • Follow Head Start/CDE/CLD policies and procedures in reporting suspected child abuse in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Attends meetings and/or workshops (e.g. staff/center meetings, in-service sessions, training, and parent meetings) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and/or maintaining their professional development.
  • Must follow timekeeping policies and procedures and approve your timesheet following payroll schedule.

  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Always represent the Agency in a professional manner.

Safety

  • Maintain personal safety, use personal protection equipment (PPE) and follow Company policies.
  • Report all and any safety issues, accidents or injuries to your manager as a matter of priority.
  • Use safety walk and carry one child at a time up and down stairs.

Effective Team Member

  • Ability to interact positively with team members.
  • Ability to facilitate positive change.
  • Collaborate with supervisor when necessary to address department issues or concerns.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma / GED

Experience: 2+ years’ experience of approved sanitation methods, quantity food preparation, equipment, agency safety standards.

Requirements:

  • Current Physical Health Screening (every 2 years thereafter)
  • Current Immunizations (TB, Influenza, MMR, Pertussis) (every 2 years thereafter)
  • Clearance of Child Abuse Index
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certificate (every 2 years thereafter)
  • Must attend trainings that are required by funders (might be an evening or Saturday)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Personality - Independent thinker, possess excellent customer service skills, professional attitude, a high level of personal integrity, maturity, and business judgment required.
  • Performance - Able to multi-task, prioritize task, meet deadlines, able to do presentations and to maintain confident information.
  • Communication - Verbal communication skills. Must be a well-organized professional who thrives in a team- oriented environment.
  • Stress Management - Ability to remain tactful under pressure and present a professional demeanor and communication style with co-workers in a multicultural setting.

Software: None required

Decision Making: Set priorities and standards of performance; Develop plans by which work can be accomplished.

Tools and Equipment: Custodian Equipment, Kitchen Appliances & Office Equipment

Confidential and Sensitive Information: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with client records.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit approximately 10% of the time, walk 45% of the time and stand 45% of the time. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type or handle, feel, and operate objects. The employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl and work with children on the floor for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to speak and listen. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
