Job summary

The Salvation Army Southern Territory is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant to prepare and serve nutritious meals in compliance with established guidelines. The role emphasizes kitchen cleanliness, safety, and inventory control in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include food prep, serving, and maintaining equipment, with physical duties such as lifting up to 75 lbs and standing for extended periods. A Food Handler’s Certificate or ability to obtain one is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent required or preferred.
• One year kitchen experience preferred or equivalent training.
• Food Handler’s Certificate or ability to obtain within timeframe.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English effectively.
• Physical ability to perform lifting up to 75 lbs and perform standing, walking, bending.

Responsibilities

• Preps and serves meals and snacks according to guidelines.
• Maintains safe, clean kitchen and equipment; cleans facilities and inventories supplies.
• Keeps inventory organized and orderly.
• Adheres to schedule and work hours as assigned.

Schedule/Hours: Monday-Sunday (29 hours per week, Typical Shift: Monday-Thursday, Between 7am-7pm)This position is responsible for:Preps and serves nutritional meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules; ensures all meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner; cleans kitchen facilities, equipment and appliances; maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner.Key Responsibilities:Kitchen Cleaning Responsibilities (60%)Food Prepping and Serving Responsibilities (40%)Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Work will normally be performed in a kitchen environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in temperature associated with cooking and the kitchen environment.Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.Ability to cook, taste and smell food.Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.Duties are performed standing and requires squatting, climbing, bending and walking.Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 75lbs.) frequently.Employee Benefits:Aflac Dental and Vision InsurancePaid Time OffVoluntary Life InsuranceEducation and Experience:High school diploma or G.E.D.
