Job Location: Kernersville Family YMCA - Kernersville, NC 27284. Position Type: Part Time. Salary Range: $12.00 - $12.00 Hourly. Job Shift: Closing.
Schedule Requirement
This position is specifically for evening coverage and every other Saturday. Applicants must be consistently available to work weekday evenings and alternating Saturdays.
Essential Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site leader during assigned Kids Zone shifts.
- Create, coordinate, and help implement age-appropriate activities for children.
- Set up and prepare activities, materials, and program spaces.
- Monitor supplies and communicate purchasing or restocking needs.
- Assist with onboarding, training, and supporting new Kids Zone employees.
- Provide ongoing coaching, direction, and feedback to Kids Zone team members.
- Help ensure staff follow YMCA policies, procedures, and established Kids Zone expectations.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and supportive team environment.
- Communicate concerns involving children, parents, staff, safety, or program operations to appropriate leadership.
- Help ensure the Kids Zone operates smoothly and provides a positive experience for members and their children.
The Team Leader is also responsible for the duties of a Kids Zone Representative
- Provide attentive care and supervision for children ages 6 weeks through 11 years.
- Lead engaging, educational, age-appropriate activities consistent with YMCA values.
- Maintain established health, safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to children, parents, members, and guests.
- Follow assigned programming and established Kids Zone procedures.
- Maintain accurate attendance and other required program records.
- Remain actively engaged with children and maintain awareness of the entire Kids Zone environment.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with parents, coworkers, and YMCA leadership.
- Attend required staff meetings and complete all required training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support branch operations.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, youth programs, childcare, recreation, or a related field preferred.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to confidently provide direction and support to other team members.
- Ability to work effectively with children of different ages, abilities, and developmental needs.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining appropriate supervision of children.
- Dependable, professional, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
- Must be available to work weekday evenings and every other Saturday.
- Must obtain required ASHI CPR certification within 30 days of employment. Training will be provided.
Physical Requirements
- Walk, stand, and sit, including sitting on the floor, for extended periods.
- Maintain constant visual and auditory awareness while supervising children.
- Lift and/or assist children weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Lift and carry program supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Bend, crouch, kneel, reach, pull, push, climb, and move throughout the Kids Zone area as necessary.
- Participate in active play and activities with children when appropriate.
- Remain alert and responsive for extended periods.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, with children, parents, staff, and YMCA leadership.
- Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency or safety-related situations.
Performance Expectations
- Maintaining the safety and well-being of children in Kids Zone.
- Consistent adherence to YMCA policies, procedures, and program standards.
- Quality of supervision, leadership, and support provided to Kids Zone staff.
- Positive feedback from children, parents, members, staff, and YMCA leadership.
- Cleanliness, organization, and preparedness of the Kids Zone.
- Reliability and consistency in scheduled evening and every-other-Saturday coverage.
- The overall quality, professionalism, and smooth operation of the Kids Zone program.
