Job summary

Great Hearts Academies is seeking a Reading/Dyslexia Interventionist at the Live Oak Lower School to support students with dyslexia and reading difficulties. The role emphasizes data-driven planning, individualized instruction, and collaboration with families and staff.

Qualifications

  • Master Reading Certification preferred.

Job description

Job Title: Reading/Dyslexia Interventionist

Location: Great Hearts Live Oak Lower School

Reports to: Headmaster

FLSA STATUS: Salaried-Exempt, Full-time

Position Summary

The Reading Interventionist uses individualized instructional strategies to provide students the opportunity to make significant gains in reading; and develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. The Reading/Dyslexia Interventionist: Teaches students identified with dyslexia and other reading challenges using instructional strategies and an individualized, intensive, multi-sensory, phonetic approach. Monitors and collects data on student progress/achievement; Maintains confidential files, records, and documents Establishes and maintains open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Attends Section 504 meetings as the dyslexia representative Supports and/or conducts assessments for dyslexia under Section 504 Plans and delivers small group or 1:1 instruction to students identified as at-risk in order to reach learning goals. Provides students with appropriate intervention instruction, learning activities, and experiences in the areas of reading to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enables students to develop competencies to close educational gaps.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional and Program Management
  • Utilize student data to help teachers identify and group students who need additional support.
  • Design intervention plans and monitor progress for students who are struggling.
  • Maintain records of student work and progress toward mastery of skills identified in intervention plan.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concerns, and achievement with families and the school community.
  • Consult with teachers to develop appropriate strategies for addressing the needs of students.
  • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers with strategies, plans and materials.
  • Participate in district and campus trainings.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local policy.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Understanding of the needs of early literacy, oral language development, and struggling readers
  • Knowledge of Dyslexia, the reading process, and the Section 504 process
  • Knowledge of best practice strategies
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively to parents, students, and staff
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced workload
  • Good judgment in handling confidential information
  • Detail-oriented
Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Education, or a related field
  • Valid Texas teaching certification in Reading, Literacy, or a related area strongly preferred
  • Master Reading Certification preferred
Experience
  • Experience delivering Reading By Design, MTA, or other Dyslexia Intervention program strongly preferred
  • Three (3) years successful teaching experience and/or experience providing reading intervention to K-5 students
Compensation

Great Hearts offers a very competitive benefits package and overall compensation will be commensurate with talent, experience and education.

Additional Requirements
  • Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Texas fingerprint clearance card.
  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.
  • Travel required: May need to ocassionally travel locally to the various academies within the metro area.
  • US work authorization is required.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
  • Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
