Job summary

Great Hearts Academies in San Antonio’s Live Oak Lower School is seeking a Reading/Dyslexia Interventionist to provide intensive, multi-sensory instruction for students struggling with reading, including those with dyslexia. You will monitor progress, maintain confidential records, and communicate with families and staff.

You will collaborate with teachers, participate in 504-related activities, and deliver small-group or 1:1 interventions to close educational gaps while aligning with district

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Education, or related field; Texas teaching certification preferred.
  • Master Reading Certification preferred.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience and/or experience providing reading intervention to K-5 students.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize student data to identify and group students needing additional support and design intervention plans.
  • Maintain records of student work and progress toward mastery of skills in intervention plans.
  • Communicate progress and concerns with families and school community; collaborate with teachers.
  • Participate in district and campus trainings; ensure compliance with policies.

Job description

Job Title: Reading/Dyslexia InterventionistLocation: Great Hearts Live Oak Lower SchoolReports to: HeadmasterFLSA STATUS: Salaried-Exempt, Full-timePosition Summary:The Reading Interventionist uses individualized instructional strategies to provide students the opportunity to make significant gains in reading; and develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.The Reading/Dyslexia Interventionist:Teaches students identified with dyslexia and other reading challenges using instructional strategies and an individualized, intensive, multi-sensory, phonetic approach.Monitors and collects data on student progress/achievement; Maintains confidential files, records, and documentsEstablishes and maintains open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.Attends Section 504 meetings as the dyslexia representativeSupports and/or conducts assessments for dyslexia under Section 504Plans and delivers small group or 1:1 instruction to students identified as at-risk in order to reach learning goals.Provides students with appropriate intervention instruction, learning activities, and experiences in the areas of reading to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.Enables students to develop competencies to close educational gaps.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional and Program ManagementUtilize student data to help teachers identify and group students who need additional support.Design intervention plans and monitor progress for students who are struggling.Maintain records of student work and progress toward mastery of skills identified in intervention plan.Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concerns, and achievement with families and the school community.Consult with teachers to develop appropriate strategies for addressing the needs of students.Serve as a resource for classroom teachers with strategies, plans and materials.Participate in district and campus trainings.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local policy.Classroom Management and OrganizationCreate classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.CommunicationEstablish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of curriculum and instruction; Understanding of the needs of early literacy, oral language development, and struggling readers.Knowledge of Dyslexia, the reading process, and the Section 504 processKnowledge of best practice strategies; Ability to interpret dataAbility to communicate effectively and relate positively to parents, students, and staffAbility to work as a teamStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsFlexibility in high-pressure situations; Ability to handle high-volume, fast-paced workloadGood judgment in handling confidential information; Detail-orientedQualifications:Education/CertificationBachelor’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Education, or a related fieldValid Texas teaching certification in Reading, Literacy, or a related area strongly preferredMaster Reading Certification preferredExperience delivering Reading By Design, MTA, or other Dyslexia Intervention program strongly preferredExperienceThree (3) years successful teaching experience and/or experience providing reading intervention to K-5 studentsCompensation:Great Hearts offers a very competitive benefits package and overall compensation will be commensurate with talent, experience and education.Additional Requirements:Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain valid Texas fingerprint clearance card.Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
