Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Alabama professional educator certificate in early childhood, elementary, or special education.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an ECE/elementary or special education teacher.
  • Demonstrate expertise in mathematics instruction, intervention, and dyscalculia interventions.
  • Hold a master's degree or completed professional development recommended by the Elementary Mathematics Task Force, or both.
  • Within 2 years of hire, obtain a K-5 mathematics coach endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Support instruction with emphasis on Tier 1 to keep students from falling behind.
  • Collaborate with the principal and faculty to plan coaching and mathematics instruction to raise student achievement.
  • Lead schoolwide mathematics professional learning and modeling of evidence-based strategies.
  • Mentor and coach teachers continuously.
  • Use data to differentiate mathematics instruction and identify dyscalculia characteristics.
  • Monitor progress of K-5 students via benchmark formative assessments at least three times per year and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Focus exclusively on mathematics coaching for elementary grades.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams to use appropriate instructional materials and concrete math aids.
  • Develop rigorous tasks, lessons, and assessments aligned with standards and provide feedback for next steps.
  • Assist teachers with formative assessments and analyzing student work to identify misconceptions and needs for acceleration.
  • Assist with early numeracy screeners (K-2) and fractional reasoning screeners (4-5), limits apply per week.
  • Advocate for family and community engagement in mathematics.
  • Participate in AMSTI regional visits and mathematics improvement initiatives to meet goals.
  • Engage in ongoing learning to grow in mathematics knowledge and instructional practices.
  • Plan and facilitate professional learning to target deficits and improve student engagement and outcomes.
  • Record job duties/time on a state platform.
  • Support integration of computer science and computational thinking in the math classroom.
  • Prioritize coaching activities and avoid non-coaching administrative duties.
