Job summary

AmeriCorps & Senior Corps is seeking an Elementary School Mentor for United Readers (26-27) to support literacy and math acquisition for K-5 students in Northern Nevada. The role involves leading small groups using a predefined curriculum and collaborating with school staff and program teams.

The position emphasizes safe, inclusive teaching, data-informed goal setting, and active participation in required trainings and ambassadorial duties for United Readers, AmeriCorps, and UWNNS.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or in educational settings is beneficial.
• Ability to follow structured curriculum and lesson plans.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead groups of students in accordance with the provided curriculum, lesson plans, and training.
• Lead and develop age and content-appropriate activities based on child’s assessed and identified needs.
• Provide a safe and respectful learning experience and space for children.
• Deliver and score assessments; review, analyze, and set goals for students according to assessment and other data.
• Maintain Member Reflection Journals and supplementals from training.
• Communicate with school site staff and program staff.
• Attend required training days and orientation sessions.
• Professionally represent and be an ambassador for the United Readers program, AmeriCorps, and UWNNS.
