Job summary

Alpha School is seeking a dedicated Youth Development Coach to guide K–3 students through app-based learning and literacy sessions at our Fullerton campus. You will diagnose gaps, tailor short sequences, and lead daily routines from launch to closing.

The role emphasizes hands-on teaching, with a focus on closing reading gaps and data-driven instruction. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree, 3+ years with children, and structured-literacy training (or a master's in reading).

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years working directly with children ages 4-9 in teaching, coaching, tutoring, camps, youth programs, or similar.
• At least 2 years teaching reading in grades K-3 within the last 5 years.
• Completed structured-literacy training or a master's in reading or literacy.
• Bachelor's degree required; teaching certificate not required.
• Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Get every K-3 student to daily learning goals and close reading gaps.
• Lead short structured-literacy sessions with 2–4 students and diagnose decoding gaps.
• Participate in morning launches, life-skills workshops, and check-chart activities.
• Drive students to weekly app goals using school currency and gamification.
• Stay with students through lunch, recess, and closing, planning for frustrated or reluctant learners.
