Job summary

Reading Assist is seeking Fellows to serve in Sussex County elementary schools, providing reading instruction to kindergarten through fifth grade students who face significant reading challenges. Fellows train for four weeks of graduate-level, in-person training, then teach 30–45 minute sessions with small groups or 1:1 support, daily from approximately 8 a.m.

to 3:30 p.m., under a Program Manager and biweekly school visits.

Qualifications

• Be able to blend, segment, and manipulate sounds within words
• Show an interest in literacy, education, and community service
• Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and professionalism
• Maintain a patient and flexible mindset
• Be open to constructive feedback
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Have completed a college degree (preferred)
• Must be proficient or prepared to learn with Google Drive, Zoom, PowerPoint, and email

Responsibilities

• Provide reading instruction to students in kindergarten through fifth grade who face significant reading challenges
• Teach foundational reading skills through the Reading Assist Intervention program
• Prepare lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and monitor progress
• Collaborate with Program Manager and school liaisons for feedback and data input
• Attend all Reading Assist trainings and events and participate in AmeriCorps activities
