DeKalb County School District is seeking an experienced Literacy Coach for grades K-3 to support teachers and school leaders in implementing evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading.

The role emphasizes coaching cycles, data analysis, professional learning, and collaboration with administrators to improve literacy outcomes, aligned with Georgia's Early Literacy Act. This is a classroom-supporting, district-wide engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or closely related area is required.
  • Reading endorsement or comparable advanced preparation in literacy instruction is required.
  • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate at level 4 or higher is required.
  • If the Literacy Coaching endorsement is not held at hire, the individual must be eligible and obtain it upon availability.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates structured coaching cycles with teachers including goal setting, modeling, lesson observation, feedback, reflective discussions, and individualized support to improve literacy instruction and student outcomes.
  • Meets regularly with school leadership and teachers to review data and make recommendations for instructional adjustments and schoolwide literacy improvement efforts.
  • Supports school leadership teams in analyzing literacy data to guide instructional decision-making and intervention planning.
  • Assists teachers and school leaders in addressing dyslexia and reading deficiencies through evidence-based practices and intervention support.
  • Interprets universal screener and progress-monitoring data to inform literacy instruction and intervention decisions within MTSS.
  • Designs and facilitates job-embedded K-3 professional learning focused on evidence-based literacy instruction and structured literacy practices.
  • Supports Georgia Early Literacy Act implementation by documenting coaching services and aligning literacy systems and practices.
  • Supports development of comprehensive schoolwide literacy plans addressing grade-specific curriculum requirements.
  • Collaborates with staff to engage families in student literacy development and communication.
  • Delivers side-by-side classroom support, modeling evidence-based practices with real-time feedback (minimum 70% of day).
  • Works with individual students and small groups to provide explicit literacy instruction in line with state legislation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
