Job summary

Chicago Public Schools in Chicago is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support classroom instruction and supervision under a licensed teacher. You will assist students with assignments, prepare materials, and help with tutoring and grading to foster a positive learning environment.

The role requires a valid ISBE paraprofessional license and strong communication, basic math, and interpersonal skills to work with children.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of proper English grammar and spelling.
• Basic knowledge of mathematics.
• Knowledge of Chicago Public Schools rules and regulations.
• Ability to work with and for school-aged children.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to operate basic office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising students during lunchroom and playground activities.
• Provide security functions by monitoring corridors and reviewing student IDs.
• Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.
• Assist teachers with bulletin boards and displaying students' work.
• Operate photocopying and duplicating machines to reproduce materials.
• Help maintain orderly classrooms and greet visitors.
• Assist with tutoring under supervision of classroom teacher.
• Collect and grade homework and examination materials.
• Assist with loading and unloading students on school buses.
• Assist with receiving, processing, and issuing new books.
• Collect daily absentee reports and contact parents to verify absences.
• Assist with selling public transportation passes to students.
