Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking K-3 teacher assistants to support instruction under a teacher or principal. You will work individually or in small groups to reinforce concepts, supervise students in classrooms and on field trips, and help maintain a safe, productive learning environment.

Additionally, you will perform clerical tasks to support teachers and coordinate instructional efforts with classroom staff.

Qualifications

Completion of an Associate's Degree or 48 college credits or passing a formal assessment (WorkKeys) with 96 hours in-service training.
Alternatives include NC DOL Apprenticeship Program or NC ATA Professional Development Plan.
Desirable: Associate's Degree with a concentration in Education.
Desirable: 2+ years working with elementary age children.

Responsibilities

Assists children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
Discusses assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
Observes students' performance and records relevant data to assess progress.
