Job summary

Sunbelt Staffing seeks an American Sign Language Interpreter to support Deaf or hard-of-hearing students in a nearby Escondido, CA school. This contract role runs 8am–3pm and spans middle and elementary levels, fostering inclusive classroom experiences and collaboration with teachers and families.

Qualified interpreters will have ASL proficiency, K-12 interpreting experience, and RID certification is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills.
• Experience providing interpretation services in a K-12 school setting preferred.
• Familiarity with elementary or middle school curriculum and classroom routines.
• Ability to adhere to confidentiality protocols and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
• RID certification or equivalent highly desirable.
• Patience, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.

Responsibilities

• Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) for students during classroom instruction and school activities.
• Work closely with teachers, staff, and families to meet each student's communication needs.
• Support students by interpreting assignments, discussions, assemblies, and extracurricular events as assigned.
• Contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when necessary.
• Assist in promoting an accessible and supportive learning environment.
• Maintain professionalism, uphold ethical interpreting standards, and keep detailed documentation if required.
