Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Sergeant to support youth safety and rehabilitation within secure facilities. You will mentor junior staff, oversee daily operations, and ensure compliance with state laws and agency policies across multiple posts.

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma, obtain CLEE within six months, and demonstrate strong interpersonal and supervisory skills, with a focus on maintaining a safe environment and effective

Qualifications

• A high school diploma.
• Must obtain CLEE certification within six months of employment.
• Competency/proficiency exam with 80% or higher; supervisory and teaching skills required.

Responsibilities

• Engages with youth to ensure safety, security, rehabilitation and wellbeing.
• Maintains regular and helpful communication with youth.
• Mentors new security staff and supports staff with reporting and logs.
• Responds to emergencies and conducts security inspections and frisk searches as needed.
• Ensures youth have basic needs met and monitors security status across posts.
• Provides training and guidance to staff to fulfill duties and maintain facility operations.
• Supervises shift operations and coordinates staff coverage.
• Maintains unit clothing, supplies, grooming, and safety compliance.
