Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is a national engineering firm with an Atlanta EMI team focused on structural mechanics, numerical simulation, and performance-based design for complex projects in nuclear, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

We offer diverse opportunities to perform analyses, design repairs, and develop design criteria while collaborating with clients and teams across disciplines. The role includes field inspections, proposals, and professional growth toward PE/SE licensure.

Qualifications

  • 0–5 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics
  • Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree
  • Education emphasis on structural engineering and/or engineering mechanics (civil/structural engineering, mechanics of structures)
  • Familiarity with building design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC
  • Ability to obtain PE or SE registration within five years
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with computer programming
  • Ability to travel and perform field inspections under supervision
  • May require a valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analyses under supervision for non-building and industrial structures
  • Design new structures and repairs of existing structures for extreme dynamic loads
  • Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analyses using Abaqus and ANSYS
  • Develop facility-specific design criteria within regulated industries
  • Assist in preparing proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication
  • Review work by technicians, draftsmen, and others on the project team
  • Conduct field inspections
  • Conduct engineering calculations using MATLAB and Mathcad
