Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) seeks a motivated engineer to join the Atlanta EMI team. You will apply structural engineering principles, numerical simulation, and innovative technologies to understand structural behavior and enhance performance on diverse projects.

The role emphasizes nuclear and energy sectors, with opportunities in buildings, bridges, pipelines, tanks, and other infrastructure, while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree with emphasis on structural engineering or engineering mechanics.
• 0–5 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics.
• Familiarity with building design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.
• Ability to obtain PE or SE registration within five years.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with computer programming.
• Ability to travel and perform field inspections.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analyses under supervision for non-building and industrial structures.
• Design new structures and repairs for extreme dynamic loads.
• Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analyses using Abaqus and ANSYS.
• Develop facility-specific design criteria for regulated industries.
• Assist in preparing proposals, reports, calculations, drawings, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
• Review work by technicians and draftsmen.
• Conduct field inspections.
• Perform engineering calculations using MATLAB and Mathcad.
