Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Structural Engineer for its Herndon, VA or Richmond, VA offices. You will join the Mid-Atlantic South Structures Section to support design, development, and construction of building and infrastructure projects.

Under supervision, you will collect data, perform basic structural analyses, and produce documentation with 2D/3D drawings while ensuring safety and quality standards. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• 0–1 year of relevant post-education experience.
• Engineer in Training Certification (preferred).
• Familiarity with design/build processes and structural design software.
• Strong research and analytical skills with clear written communication.
• Ability to work independently under supervision and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and maps.
• Assist with basic professional structural engineering tasks for design, development, and construction phases.
• Provide entry-level technical support on design requirements to ensure safety and functionality.
• Verify site characteristics and assess structural soundness under loads and environmental factors.
• Generate clear documentation using drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and site notebooks/logs.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and project procedures; complete assigned training and tasks.
• Travel as project needs may require.
