Job summary

Astound is seeking a Junior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our IT Infrastructure team in Illinois. You will assist in maintaining Microsoft SQL Server databases, support Oracle environments, and help ensure performance, security, and reliability across development, test, and production systems.

The role offers hands-on exposure to backups, restores, patch management, and monitoring, with opportunities to grow into more advanced database administration and enterprise data

Qualifications

• 2 years experience with SQL Server Databases.
• Basic understanding of relational database concepts and database architecture.
• Familiarity with Oracle Databases.
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server and Linux environments.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases in development, test, and production environments.
• Perform routine database administration within Microsoft SQL Server - backups, restores, integrity checks, and index maintenance.
• Assist with SQL Server provisioning, configuration, and patch management.
• Monitor SQL Server database performance and help identify bottlenecks or optimization opportunities.
• Troubleshoot SQL Server connectivity and performance issues.
• Assist with SQL Server upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
• Maintain SQL Server database security, permissions, and RBAC.
• Assist with administration and monitoring of Oracle Database environments.
• Support Oracle backup and recovery operations using RMAN.
• Help monitor Oracle database health, performance, and storage utilization.
• Participate in Oracle patching and upgrade activities.
• Support Oracle user account management and security administration.
• Other duties as assigned
