Job summary

Astound Broadband is seeking a Junior SQL Server DBA to join the IT Infrastructure team in New York. You will help administer, monitor, and support SQL Server databases while gaining exposure to Oracle environments, working with the Director of IT and system engineers to ensure performance, security, and reliability.

Responsibilities include backups, patch management, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting across SQL Server and Oracle databases. Experience with RMAN is a plus.

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience with SQL Server databases.
• Basic understanding of relational database concepts and architecture.
• Familiarity with Oracle databases.
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server and Linux environments.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases in development, test, and production environments.
• Perform routine database administration: backups, restores, integrity checks, and index maintenance.
• Assist with SQL Server provisioning, configuration, and patch management.
• Monitor performance and identify bottlenecks or optimization opportunities.
• Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues.
• Assist with upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
• Maintain security, permissions, and RBAC for SQL Server.
• Assist with administration and monitoring of Oracle Database environments.
• Support Oracle RMAN backups and recovery operations.
• Monitor Oracle health, performance, and storage utilization.
• Participate in Oracle patching and upgrades.
• Support Oracle user account management and security.
• Other duties as assigned.
