Overview

The Paredes Lab – Neurodevelopment and Disease at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus seeks a Junior Specialist to conduct research related to the cellular and molecular basis of perinatal human brain development, aiming to understand the unique architecture of the human brain. Specialists focus on research and do not have teaching responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Collect and process human, piglet, and mouse brain samples and assist with protocol optimization.
• Perform immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy imaging, and stereological analysis of samples.
• Support qualitative studies operations including participant recruitment, sample collection, and data updates.
• Test antibodies and run immunostaining experiments.
• Quantify data and perform image processing.
• Maintain inventory of brain bank samples.
• Coordinate daily study activities for a qualitative arm of a CIRM‑funded project, including participant recruitment, sample processing, data maintenance, and communication with study teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related science or at least four years of research experience.
• Familiarity with immunohistochemistry and cryosectioning.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented and highly accurate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to work independently.

Salary

Estimated $55,000 – $58,600.
