Job summary

Electric Power Systems seeks a Relay Technician I to support installation, testing, and maintenance of protective relay systems in substations and industrial environments. The role emphasizes learning relay protection theory and practical testing under supervision.

You will build basic relay test plans, perform entry-level tests, and assist in troubleshooting using schematics and manuals, while growing under experienced technicians and engineers.

Qualifications

  • Pre-employment drug screen required.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Willing to work overtime and travel.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays.

Responsibilities

  • Implement safety policies and PPE usage.
  • Participate in safety meetings, briefings and hazard identification.
  • Assist with installation, wiring, and commissioning of protection and control systems.
  • Perform entry-level testing under supervision from Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers.
  • Assist in building and executing basic relay test plans.
  • Support testing activities alongside senior staff.
  • Read and interpret one-line, three-line, and AC/DC schematics and drawings.
  • Assist in reviewing protection and control drawings to understand system design.
  • Assist in troubleshooting relay and control system issues using schematics and manuals.
  • Accurately document testing activities and maintain reports.
