Job summary

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh is seeking an enthusiastic assistant real-time embedded engineer to work on safety-critical embedded software. You will collaborate with hardware and software teams, including bare-metal systems, RTOS, FPGAs, and embedded Linux, to develop tools and methods for rigorous analysis and testing.

You should have a BS in CS or EE, strong C/C++ (plus VHDL/Verilog), experience with CMSIS/HAL drivers, and exposure to

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience as a software developer, software engineer, verification engineer, or related field.
  • Proficiency in C/C++, VHDL/Verilog, Python, or C#.
  • Familiar with CMSIS/HAL drivers and bare-metal systems.
  • Experience with RTOS such as VxWorks or Integrity.
  • Willingness to work 100% onsite in Pittsburgh and travel 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Understand complex embedded systems across multiple abstraction levels and interfaces.
  • Design and develop embedded software tools for analysis, testing, and evaluation of existing software.
  • Apply systems engineering to identify weaknesses and flawed implementations traced from requirements.
  • Use static/dynamic analysis and complexity tools to uncover weaknesses and vulnerabilities, guiding safety-critical systems toward robustness.
  • Conduct research and share knowledge to improve software development processes and SoS performance.
