Job summary

Aqua Pennsylvania, a unit of Aqua America and Essential Utilities, seeks a Project Engineer I to oversee capital improvements for water distribution systems. You will manage projects from planning through execution, coordinate with internal teams and external consultants, and ensure compliance with standards.

Responsibilities include budgeting, permitting, design support, and data management. A.E.I.T. or ability to obtain within 12 months, plus a PA driver’s license, are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• 1–3 years of design experience, ideally with water projects.
• Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification or eligible to obtain within 12 months.
• Pennsylvania driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Manage capital projects including water main replacements and water treatment improvements.
• Prepare studies and reports to guide system planning and improvements.
• Assist in developing annual capital improvement plans and budgeting.
• Prepare permit applications and secure local, state, and federal approvals.
• Prepare bid documents and oversee contracting requirements.
• Collaborate with department heads, designers, consultants, and contractors to ensure standards.
• Track budgets and timelines using company financial systems.
• Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes.
• Provide technical due diligence for potential acquisitions and estimate needed improvements.
• Maintain and update system maps and hydraulic models.
