Job summary

West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas seeks a Buyer I to perform entry-level purchasing duties for supplies, equipment and routine services. You will work under supervision to process requisitions, prepare specs, secure bids and issue purchase orders.

The role requires basic knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets, strong communication, and the ability to multitask in a collaborative environment. The position emphasizes compliance and timely training completion.

Qualifications

• Highschool diploma or combination of education and experience.
• CTD to be obtained within 12 months on start date.
• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Knowledge of standard business terms and arithmetic.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Procures goods and services and ensure accuracy of such purchases.
• Prepares specifications for purchases.
• Received requisitions, secures bids, tabulates and makes award of standard purchases.
• Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids and awards processed.
• Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures.
• Assists purchasing manager with processing of invoices and routing requisitions.
• Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.
