Job summary

Actalent is seeking an entry-level Distribution Design Engineer I in Lansing, MI, to plan, engineer, and design electric distribution systems for residential and commercial customers. You will work under experienced engineers, perform field engineering, and develop work packages for overhead and underground distribution, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role offers training and strong growth potential within a large power engineering organization with steady project backlog

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Environmental, Design preferred)
• Associates degree with 13 years of relevant experience will be considered
• Experience with CAD tools for engineering design (AutoCAD, MicroStation)
• Foundational knowledge of engineering principles related to power distribution
• Ability to work in both field and office/remote settings
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Must live within 40 min radius of Lansing, MI

Responsibilities

• Plan, engineer, and design electric distribution systems for residential/commercial customers
• Determine need, size, location, and timing of infrastructure while balancing constraints
• Develop work packages for overhead and underground distribution
• Perform field engineering to gather requirements and verify conditions
• Conduct engineering calculations using established procedures and codes
• Use CAD tools to create and update distribution drawings
• Support post-construction reviews and ensure design alignment with goals
• Collaborate with internal teams and external clients
• Follow NESC codes where applicable
• Communicate clearly with peers and client representatives
• Escalate complex issues to experienced engineers
• Support design packages, field inspections, and project documentation
• Participate in field inspections and office/remote design work
• Demonstrate professional communication and demeanor
