Job summary

Laborie in Portsmouth, NH is seeking a Software Engineer I to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of medical software. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will contribute to software development while building expertise in medical device software processes.

You will participate in coding, debugging, testing, documentation, and reviews; create unit tests; adhere to QMS and IEC 62304; collaborate across teams and continually grow your technical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/SE/CE or related field, and 0–2 years of experience.
• Experience with at least one modern object-oriented programming language (e.g., C#, C++, or Java).
• Familiarity with software development tools such as Visual Studio and version control systems (Git, TFS, or similar).
• Basic understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and software engineering principles.
• Exposure to databases (e.g., SQL Server), .NET frameworks, and object-oriented design concepts is preferred.
• Familiarity with software testing principles and automated testing frameworks is a plus.
• Knowledge of medical device software standards (IEC 62304) is preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work effectively on assigned tasks.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
• Demonstrated willingness to learn and grow technical capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, implementation, and verification of software components and systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in software development activities including coding, debugging, testing, and documentation.
• Collaborate with software, systems, and test engineers to understand requirements and contribute to software solutions.
• Create and maintain software development documentation in compliance with Laborie's Quality Management System (QMS) and applicable standards.
• Develop and execute unit tests
• Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality and technical skills.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and issues with guidance from senior team members.
• Follow established software engineering processes, coding standards, and best practices.
• Provide regular progress updates to project leads and managers.
• Support maintenance and enhancement activities for existing software products.
• Continuously develop technical skills and learn new tools, technologies, and development practices.
• Maintain high standards of software quality and compliance with departmental quality plans and procedures.
