Job summary

WSP seeks a Mechanical Engineer for our Dallas, TX office to work with the Property and Buildings Team on design, development, building, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems for infrastructure projects.

The role involves data collection, site surveys, load calculations, and coordination with cross-functional teams. Requires 1–3 years of experience and proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; strong communication and technical writing skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Familiarity with mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Highly familiar with relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software Revit and AutoCAD

Responsibilities

  • Support technical staff, engineers, and project managers in design, development, building, testing, and inspecting mechanical systems.
  • Assist with data collection, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and reports for project development and construction.
  • Develop technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems.
  • Write technical reports summarizing research and specifications with findings and conclusions.
  • Assist with risk identification and assessment and provide input on design concepts, construction, mitigation and improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on project work.
  • Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work and permitting.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Work with engineers and planners on projects with building and infrastructure authorities on various funded initiatives.
  • Adhere to Code of Conduct and policies.
