Job summary

Vernis & Bowling of Atlanta seeks a Junior IT Administrator to support, troubleshoot, and optimize our IT environment. You will work hands-on with Windows servers, virtual machines, firewall rules, and security tooling, delivering end-user help and infrastructure tasks.

This role offers hands-on exposure to AD/Azure AD, backups, patching, network devices, and cross-team collaboration in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in IT support or desktop support roles.
• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, or similar.
• Hands-on with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy.
• Experience managing virtual environments (VMware or Hyper-V).
• Strong knowledge of firewall configuration and network security best practices.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 apps and VoIP systems.
• Scripting basics (PowerShell, Bash) and automation experience.
• Experience with ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Zendesk, Freshdesk).
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and maintain Windows servers, supporting AD DS, DNS, DHCP, IIS.
• Build, manage, and monitor VM environments and migrations.
• Plan capacity, HA, backups, and DR exercises.
• Configure and update firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and host-based firewalls.
• Implement layered security: endpoint protection, MFA, SIEM.
• Manage OS/app/hypervisor patching and device updates.
• Collaborate on Windows Server upgrades and migrations.
• Administer Active Directory and Azure AD, GPOs, and permissions.
• Maintain backup strategies for VMs and physical servers.
• Maintain network devices and secure remote access configurations.
• Troubleshoot network issues with network teams/vendors.
• Provide Tier 3 support for escalated issues.
• Maintain system diagrams, firewall rules, and inventories.
• Automate tasks with PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform.
• Collaborate on adopting new technologies for security and performance.
