Job summary

Qualifications

• Certification as a Special Education teacher required or clearly indicated in state credentials.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field from an accredited program.
• Ability to manage IEPs and support plans in a school setting.
• Experience with data tracking and progress reporting for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Participates and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
• Assists students and staff in implementing IEPs and behavior plans.
• Coordinates with outside agencies and authorities as needed.
• Coordinates with administrators to assess individual student needs; supports social work services.
• Provides counseling and acts as liaison between home and school.
• Pursues ongoing professional development through seminars and research.
• Maintains accurate records and communicates student information to colleges/employers as required.
• Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with families.
• Assists in orientation of new teachers and in-service training in guidance.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate books and supplies; maintains inventory.
