Job summary

Cal State LA's University-Student Union (U-SU) seeks a Junior Graphics Designer Assistant to support the Graphics & Marketing Director with design tasks from concept to completion, and to create digital assets for web and social media.

The role offers up to 20 hours per week, an initial two-month training period, and a Fall/Spring academic-year duration with potential extension, providing hands-on experience in print prep, photoshoots assistance, and event graphics within a student-focused team.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum GPA of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum CSULA GPA of 3.0.
• Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse student body and staff.
• Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Mac applications, and printing.
• Knowledge of social media platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Junior Graphics Designer Assistant

Hourly Rate:$18.65 per hour; non-exempt classification

Duration: Academic Year (Fall/Spring) with the possibility of extension

Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours/week (no more than 999 hours per calendar year). Schedule developed with the Graphics & Marketing Director

Training Period: Two months with the possibility of extension

General Statement:

Under the general supervision of the Graphics & Marketing Director, the Junior Graphics Designer Assistant provides design support to the University-Student Union (U-SU). The Junior Graphics Designer Assistant is responsible for performing varied design tasks and projects for the effective operation of the U-SU Graphics department.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists creative team in design tasks from conception to completion using a variety of platforms;


• Creates and archives digital assets for web and social media promotional campaigns;


• Prepares design files for print and coordinates production with supervisor;


• Maintains and organizes project files;


• Assists in photoshoots and photographing activities and events;


• Assists in large format signage installation;


• Attends and participates in scheduled Graphics staff meetings, meetings with supervisor, andU-SU training sessions;


• Provides quality customer service to the University community;


• Assists with projects and events and may assist staff with leading Production Aide on projects;


• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0;


• Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;


• Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;


• Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;


• Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize and complete assigned duties and varied tasks;


• Strong interpersonal and group communication skills in a team environment;


• Must be self-motivated, able to adjust to changing workloads, and have some independent judgment;


• Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;


• Experience using various desktop and web-based applications and office equipment;


• Experience in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, MacIntosh applications, and printing preferred;


• Knowledgeable and understanding of social media platforms preferred;
