Job summary

Sunset Valley Construction, LLC seeks a Junior Estimator / Preconstruction Engineer for its sitework and underground utilities team in Ellington, CT. You’ll work with the owner and estimators to support front-end efforts and learn takeoffs, pricing, and how estimates become field-ready.

This role is ideal for someone early in their construction career with a solid foundation who can grow into Estimator, Senior Estimator, Project Engineer, or Project Manager as you learn the work and prove

Qualifications

• 2+ years as Project Engineer or similar construction role, or two- to four-year degree in civil field
• Ability to read plans, specs, and contract documents and map to sitework
• Familiarity with heavy equipment, site construction, excavation, grading, utilities, drainage, paving
• Strong organizational skills and attention to bid deadlines and quotes

Responsibilities

• Learn quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, drainage, and sitework
• Review plans and bid docs to flag missing or conflicting information
• Pull quantities, labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and pricing
• Solicit and compare quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
• Assist with bid forms, scope sheets, and estimate reviews
• Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks when needed
• Maintain organized files and historical pricing
• Support handoffs to operations for clear estimate carryover
• Grow into Estimator or Project Manager roles over time
