Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems in Huntsville, AL seeks a Junior EO/IR Algorithm Developer to join a multidisciplinary team developing ATA/ATR algorithms for EO/IR sensors. You will prototype in Python and transition mature designs into production‑level C++ applications.

Apply CV and deep learning methods, evaluate performance with quantitative metrics, and collaborate with leadership and test teams to integrate results into software stacks. A Master’s degree and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Software Engineering, CS, or related field.
• Experience with Python for prototyping and scientific computing.
• Familiarity with C++ development and production-readiness.
• Foundational knowledge of image processing and CV techniques.
• Understanding of deep learning methods for detection/recognition/tracking.
• Ability to communicate findings and work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with Git, JIRA, and Agile software processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, prototype, and refine EO/IR object detection, recognition, and tracking algorithms.
• Implement algorithms in Python for rapid prototyping and transition to production C++.
• Apply conventional CV methods and deep learning approaches (CNNs/ transformers).
• Evaluate algorithms with quantitative metrics and analyze limitations.
• Collaborate with leadership, test, and M&S groups to define data needs and conditions.
• Prepare technical docs, present results, and support ATA/ATR software integration.
• Contribute to dataset creation, labeling strategies, and data workflows.
