Job summary

Nexus Data Centers is building a hyperscale data center campus in Hubbard, Texas, and we are hiring a junior electrical engineer who will learn from senior engineers and grow into a power systems specialist.

On-site daily work includes reviewing drawings, drafting specs, performing site walks, and documenting field conditions. You’ll collaborate across trades to track RFIs, submittals, and design items while gaining practical, real-world experience on a live build.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in building industry, ideally at an architectural firm or on power plant projects.
• EIT certification or actively pursuing PE licensure.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and specifications.
• Working knowledge of electrical systems—power distribution, substations, or plant electrical fundamentals.
• Proficiency with MS Office and Bluebeam."
• Strong written communication - producing comments, logs, and status reports.
• Willingness to work on-site in Hubbard, TX and in the field during construction and commissioning.

Job description

Nexus Data Centers is building a hyperscale data center campus in Hubbard, Texas, and this is a rare chance to get in on the ground floor of one of the fastest-growing sectors in the industry. We're looking for a junior electrical engineer who wants to learn directly from senior engineers with deep experience in power and mission-critical infrastructure, and build a career in data centers from day one.

This isn't a role where you'll be buried behind a desk. You'll be on-site, in the middle of the action, picking up the kind of practical knowledge that only comes from working next to people who've done this at scale.

This is a hands‑on technical role. Your day is spent doing engineering work such as reviewing drawings, drafting requirements, walking the site, chasing open items to closure rather than managing schedules or budgets. You'll grow into ownership of a power systems discipline by building the technical depth first.

What You'll Do

Design and Technical Support

• Review and redline electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and specifications, logging comments for senior engineer review.
• Draft equipment requirements and technical specifications under senior engineer direction.
• Support calculations, power system study inputs, and drawing production for design packages.
• Learn how a hyperscale data center actually gets built, from power distribution to systems integration.

On‑Site and Field Work

• Conduct site walks and field inspections, verifying installed work against approved drawings.
• Document field conditions, discrepancies, and as‑built changes accurately and promptly.
• Support Factory Acceptance Tests, site surveys, and field data collection.

Document Control and Coordination

• Own document control for electrical deliverables - maintain logs, track submittal status, and follow up on outstanding items.
• Track RFIs, submittals, and open design items through to resolution.
• Help track progress, quality, and coordination across trades and disciplines.
• Prepare meeting notes, action item logs, and status reports for electrical scope.

How You'll Work

• Work side by side with senior electrical engineers, supporting whatever the site needs on a given day.
• Take direction from experienced engineers and grow quickly by doing, not just watching.

What We're Looking For

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• 2-4 years of experience in the building industry, ideally at an architectural firm or on power plant projects.
• EIT certification, or actively working toward Professional Engineering (PE) licensure.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and specifications.
• Working knowledge of electrical systems - power distribution, substations, or plant electrical fundamentals.
• Proficiency with MS Office and Bluebeam.
• Strong written communication - you'll be producing comments, logs, and status reports that others rely on.
• Willingness to work on-site in Hubbard, TX and in the field during construction and commissioning.

Also Helps

• AutoCAD or Revit drawing production experience.
• Exposure to ETAP or SKM power system studies.
• Power systems coursework, internships, or co‑op experience.
• Exposure to power generation, utility, or large‑scale industrial construction projects.
• Familiarity with ERCOT or Texas utility systems.
