Job description

Nexus Data Centers is hiring a Field Engineer to sit within our engineering group on a multi-gigawatt hyperscale AI data center campus in Hill County, TX, one of the largest self-powered data center builds underway. This role works directly with our design and engineering team to keep construction aligned with design intent, in real time, on a large and fast-moving site.

What You'll Do
  • Interpret and translate design drawings and specifications into field layout, staking, and construction execution
  • Perform and verify site survey, grading, and layout control for civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes
  • Work directly with engineering to resolve discrepancies and design conflicts as field conditions arise
  • Generate and track RFIs from the field, ensuring engineering responses are captured and implemented correctly
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation and redlines to feed back into the engineering record set
  • Conduct field quality checks against design tolerances and specifications
  • Support constructability reviews, flagging design issues before they hit the field
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and Project Engineers to keep engineering-driven scope on schedule
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent field experience)
  • 2+ years of field engineering experience on heavy industrial, power generation, or utility-scale construction (data center experience a plus, not required)
  • Working knowledge of survey/layout tools (total station, GPS), AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and Bluebeam
  • Strong technical fluency: comfortable reading and interrogating design drawings, not just building to them
  • Comfortable engaging design engineers directly and iteratively throughout the build
  • Ability to be on-site full-time in Hubbard, TX
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Regularly divides time between a site office or trailer and active construction areas, standing and walking on uneven ground for extended periods
  • Climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding, and work at heights or in confined spaces as scope requires
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and grasping
  • Work outdoors year-round in Central Texas conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, and high noise levels
  • Wear required PPE on site at all times, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toed boots
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel across a large, active site daily
  • Extended hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as the construction schedule requires
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role
