Job summary

National CORE is seeking a Junior Compliance Specialist to support affordable housing portfolios. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory agreements, laws and internal policies. You may travel for professional development.

The role requires collaboration with multiple teams, strong attention to income limits and rent parameters, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as Lead Compliance Auditor or two years in affordable housing management.
• Certification in LIHTC, HUD & BOS or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Experience working with affordable housing funding agencies, ownership entities, and management companies is preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of affordable housing programs and strong mathematical proficiency.
• Experience with Windows and Office 2000 software (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Reviews property-specific Regulatory Agreements to identify funding sources and requirements and aligns internal systems.
• Coordinates with Compliance Team to communicate with external property owners.
• Updates internal systems to reflect changes to income limits, rents and utilities.
• Reviews prospective resident files for income qualification and compliance.
• Produces reports and documentation for owners, regulators and authorities.
• Identifies, reports and resolves noncompliance matters.
• Collaborates with other departments and clients.

The Junior Compliance Specialist reports to the Compliance Manager and is a member of a Team of Compliance professionals responsible for supporting affordable housing portfolios on behalf of external property owners. This includes working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with property specific regulatory agreements, applicable laws, and internal policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews property specific Regulatory Agreements to identify all applicable funding sources and corresponding regulatory requirements, owner and investor reporting requirements, rent parameters, etc, and ensures internal systems are appropriately aligned.
• Coordinates with other Compliance Team members to communicate with external property owners.
• Updates internal systems to reflect ongoing changes to income limits, rents and utility allowances.
• Reviews prospective resident files for income qualification and continued compliance.
• Produces reports, materials, and other documentation as legally required, including to owner and regulatory authorities.
• Proactively identifies, reports and resolves any noncompliance matters.
• Effectively collaborates with lateral department managers, team members, and clients.
• Addresses and resolves any issues or challenges that arise promptly and efficiently.
• Participates in professional development activities which, from time to time may include travel and overnight stays.

EXPERIENCE

• Two to three years’ experience as a Lead Compliance Auditor or two years’ experience in affordable housing property management.
• Has obtained the LIHTC, HUD & BOS certifications or has the ability to obtain these certifications within the first 90 days of employment.
• Experience working directly with affordable housing funding agencies, ownership entities, and management companies is preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of affordable housing programs.

• Yardi experience is preferred.
• Must have a working knowledge of Windows and Office 2000 software: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
