Job summary

iRocket is seeking a Junior CNC Machinist in Hauppauge, NY to support production of aerospace components. You will operate CNC milling and turning equipment, assist with setups, inspect parts, and grow your machining skills through hands-on work.

This role suits a recent technical program graduate or early-career machinist with a keen mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. You’ll learn G-code/M-code basics, read drawings, and collaborate with engineers and seasoned machinists on prototype

Qualifications

• Read engineering drawings and tolerances.
• Operate CNC milling and turning equipment using programs.
• Assist with setups, tooling, and workholding.
• Load/unload parts; monitor cycles; identify defects.
• Measure parts with calipers and micrometers; document results.
• Support first-piece inspections and new program prove-outs.
• Help deburring and finishing; prepare components for inspection.
• Maintain clean, organized work area; perform routine machine care.
• Follow shop safety procedures; support prototype and production runs.

Responsibilities

• Read engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work instructions; understand dimensions and tolerances.
• Operate CNC milling and turning equipment with established programs and procedures.
• Assist experienced machinists with machine setups, tooling, and fixtures.
• Load/unload parts, monitor machining cycles, identify defects or unusual behavior.
• Measure parts with calipers, micrometers, gauges; document results.
• Make basic tool and work offset adjustments after training and supervision.
• Support first-piece inspections and new program prove-outs.
• Assist with deburring, finishing, and preparing components for inspection or assembly.
• Maintain a clean, organized area and perform routine machine care.
