Job summary

City of Farmers Branch, TX is seeking a Graduate Engineer (Engineer in Training) to support project development and plan review for in-house public works. You will analyze plans, respond to citizen requests, and assist senior staff with design, documentation, and project management.

Under City Engineer supervision, you will gain technical experience, handle plans and specifications, and collaborate with contractors and developers. A background check is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil engineering and construction principles and practices.
• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations, and design standards.
• Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering documents including plans and schematics.
• Skilled in reading and comprehending technical materials.
• Skilled in utilizing AutoCAD or similar design software and GIS.

• Skilled in gathering and analyzing information and making recommendations based on findings.

Responsibilities

• Prepares under the direction of the City Engineer designs, specifications, costs and quantity estimates for public works projects including water, wastewater, paving, and drainage plans.
• Reviews engineering plans submitted from consultants to ensure compliance with City rules, regulations and design standards; assists public and private contractors with questions.
• Participates in meetings and task forces to provide technical engineering information and reviews development projects.
• Creates, reviews, revises and maintains reference materials, manuals and standards such as forms and checklists.
• Amends, interprets and implements City ordinances and policies to improve safety in development.
• Use GIS to retrieve utility and property information.
