Job summary

The City of Rowlett, Texas is seeking a civil engineer to plan, design, review, inspect and administer municipal CIP and private development projects. You’ll perform calculations, CAD work, plan review, and cost estimates while guiding junior staff and serving as a resource for consultants and developers.

Requirements include a B.S. in Civil Engineering (or related field), proficiency in engineering principles, AutoCAD, GIS, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Proficiency in basic engineering principles, terminology and techniques.
• Proficiency with computer software, estimating and communication.
• Ability to perform complex engineering computations (calculus, geometry, trig).
• Ability to read and interpret specifications, plans and drawings.
• Ability to interpret information and make decisions per policies and procedures.
• Ability to provide direction to peers and communicate with the public.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and oversight for CIP and private development projects.
• Inspect construction projects for compliance with standards and regulations.
• Assist in planning, design, evaluation, and estimation of construction and rehab projects.
• Review and incorporate design comments, verify calculations, and perform QA/QC.
• Prepare and review engineering plans, specs, and contract documents.
• Participate in bid processes: review packages, attend pre-bid conferences, analyze bids, prepare evaluations.
• Prepare construction cost estimates using data and engineering judgment.
• Support staff with calculations, data analysis and standards development.
• Review CIP and private development plans for compliance with codes and city standards.
