Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking an Engineer I to perform planning, design, and analysis for public infrastructure and fire protection systems. You will provide project management and engineering expertise across capital projects, ensuring compliance with City, State, and Federal standards.

This role requires a Texas Professional Engineer license or eligibility and strong communication skills, with potential field work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or higher from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineering License (P.E.) in Texas or eligible to obtain within six months after appointment.
  • Some positions may require a valid driver’s license.
  • For Fire Protection Division, a Licensed Professional Engineer in Fire Protection may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees design and construction contracts for infrastructure improvements (paving, streets, bridges, water/Wastewater, fire protection).
  • Coordinates all phases of engineering design and construction; helps develop budgets and funding; communicates with citizens and departments.
  • Develops and reviews engineering plans to ensure compliance with City, State and Federal standards.
  • Reviews invoices, submittals, and change orders.
  • Prepares agenda and contract/change order packages.
  • Collaborates with consultants, inspectors, contractors, and other agencies; conducts site visits as needed.
  • Performs other work as required.
