Job summary

The City of Amarillo seeks a Building Inspector to perform inspections of residential and commercial buildings and other structures to ensure compliance with the City’s Municipal Code. You will review construction documents, answer public questions, and assist other inspectors as needed.

A valid Texas driver’s license and ICC Residential Building Inspector certification within 1 year are required. Strong communication, ability to work outdoors in varied weather, and basic CAD/GIS literacy are

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience in public relations or high public contact.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred; ICC Residential Building Inspector within 1 year; valid Texas driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Inspects residential and commercial buildings and signs to ensure compliance with the City of Amarillo Municipal Code.
• Reviews construction documents for compliance and permitting.
• Answers public inquiries and provides policy guidance to the public.
• Coordinates with other agencies on condemnation and demolition processes.
• Documents inspections and maintains inspection history in required software.
