Job summary

Abacus Intel is seeking a Software Engineer I to contribute to backend services and the database layer. You will build Python services, design PostgreSQL schemas, and extend asynchronous data pipelines under supervision within an Agile environment.

This entry-level role sits in a four-level engineering framework, offering growth opportunities. Responsibilities include building APIs, tuning databases, handling large sensitive data, and collaborating with frontend (React) teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency in Python with a web framework such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Python backend services and internal APIs within an assigned product area.
• Design, query, and tune PostgreSQL schemas, indexes, migrations, and write safe data migrations.
• Extend and monitor asynchronous queue-based pipelines (Celery/SQS/RabbitMQ).
• Handle sensitive data with encryption, access logging, and retention controls.
• Implement audit logging and data lineage for traceability.
• Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and ship via CI/CD on AWS.
• Support ad hoc data requests and document recurring issues/resolutions.
• Support frontend development in React, including API integration and UI fixes.
