Job summary

Sika is seeking a Jr. Chemist in Shakopee, MN to contribute to the development of new technology platforms for sealants and adhesives.

You will perform bench research, design experiments, and generate meaningful data to advance projects, while maintaining meticulous laboratory records. You will support production plants and customers with technical solutions, travel to customer sites as needed, and collaborate with sales, marketing, EHS, and manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 0–2 years of hands-on industrial laboratory experience; adhesives/polymer experience preferred.
  • Strong presentation and technical writing skills.
  • DOE experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel about 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Execute feasibility studies and bench designs to generate meaningful data for project progression.
  • Test products according to Industry standards and Sika Procedures to ensure product quality and performance.
  • Provide technical support to production plants and customers.
  • Visit customer sites and provide technical solutions to customers.
  • Maintain accurate records and maintain good laboratory & QC notebook practice.
  • Collaborate with internal customers: sales, marketing, EHS, and production in assigned activities.
  • Support TC Shakopee Safety, Nuage and 5S activities and interact with other Sika global platforms.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy and harassment free work environment.
  • Attend all necessary training requested by the company.
  • Learn and follow Sika processes such as PDP, Monthly Reporting Contribution.

With an innovative mind for new concepts and chemistry, laboratory benchwork contributes to the development of new technology platforms for new products. Conduct basic research into chemistry that is relevant to sealants and adhesives and their applications. Develop new products.
